About Gustavus: This small community, which accurately describes itself as "Gateway to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve," lies 10 miles by road from the park and 48 miles northwest by air from Juneau. The park, however, is far from being the only attraction thereabouts. Sportfishing from charter yachts or fly-casting into promising freshwater are frequent choices for visitors. So are hiking or biking local trails, photographing abundant birdlife and wildlife, and savoring gourmet meals at local inns and lodges. There's even a par-36, nine-hole golf course.

Snow-covered peaks of the Chilkat Range and the Fairweather Mountains surround the community on three sides, resulting in miles-upon-miles of flat land ripe for berry picking including wild strawberries, huckleberries, nagoonberries, blueberries, and other succulent delights.

All that being said, no Gustavus visit is complete without a day cruise to nearby Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve where small vessels and large offer close-up viewing and photographing as numerous glaciers flow down valleys from high in the surrounding mountains. Amenities: We are centrally located on a portion of an original Gustavus homestead. Easy walking or biking to restaurants, galleries, and stores. Bicycles are provided. Our home is situated on five acres of expansive lawns, gardens, and spruce woods. Our large friendly dog will welcome you. There are no indoor pets and ours is a non-smoking home. Our two upstairs rooms share a bathroom and a large sitting room with satellite TV, wireless internet, and comfortable seating. Each room has a queen bed and one has a twin futon as well. For breakfast we serve homemade breads, muffins or scones, freshly laid eggs, fresh fruits or berries in season, and garden grown vegetables and herbs whenever possible. Breakfast is individually scheduled.
