About Juneau: Pictured is downtown Juneau, Alaska's capital city and a favorite port for travelers aboard both cruiseships and the passenger and vehicle-carrying ferries of the Alaska Marine Highway System. There's much to see and photograph here, including the Alaska State Museum, the City of Juneau Museum, the Governor' House, the marble-columned State Capitol, the colorful downtown cruiseship wharf, the ever-popular Red Dog Saloon and other colorful watering holes, and the 19th century onion-domed Russian Orthodox Church.

Too, there's the must-ride Mt. Roberts Tram which rises from its sea-level base on the wharf to an 1,800-foot elevation. There, passengers find observaton platforms for unsurpassed views of the city, big and little vessels at the cruiseship docks, meandering and scenic Gastinearu Channel, the Douglas Bridge, Douglas Island and the historic former mining community of Douglas. Features inside an upper-level terminal structure include dining area, bar, theater, and quality shops. Outside. hiking trails can take walkers to ever-higher levels.
Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau

"Out the road" visitors will find Juneau's premier attracton: Mendenhall Glacier and U.S. Forest Service visitor center. The glacier is the State of Alaska's second most-visited river of ice.

Too, there's the highly-rated Glacier Gardens tour, the scenic campus of the University of Alaaska Southeast, the Mendenhall Wetlands which is home to varied species of birds including eagles, ravens, ducks, swans, arctic terns, herons, plovers, gulls, dippers, sparrows and owls.
